Founder's Message

Dear Critical Thinker,

In this celebratory moment, I think of the legions of proud Jamaican fathers from theWindrush generationin London toProfessor Emeritus Donald J. Harris, Ph.D. of Stanford University.Dr. Harris was the first Black scholar to receive tenure, which he won tenure in just three years, an accomplishment that is celebratory and revelatory, both then and now. He, like almost every Jamaican father I've ever encountered, is charismatic, fiercely proud, and passionate about secondary education attained for the next generation.

Indeed,Dr. Donald J. Harris is the perfect picture of Academic Excellence and long-term career success with supreme morals and an unflappable demeanor. Indeed a gentleman we would all like to know and have as a role model for our children too. A deep thinker with strong emotional intelligence, grit, and perseverance.

Dr. Donald J. Harris is a man of fierce Jamaican pride dating back three generations to an ancestral line of entrepreneurship on both sides of his family.

Jamaican fathers embody and pass down to the next generation the spirit, tenacity, and talent to inspire and achieve greatness. Cultural and ethnic pride are woven into the Jamaican parenting style, in families no matter where they live in the world. FromMarcus Garvey to Malcolm Gladwell to our Artist of the Month, Akeem Smith, Jamaican parenthood influences success.

Noted Jamaican writers in the literary canon fromClaude McKay to Thomas Glave are fully representational on how their fathers impact the lives of their children and generations to come. We cannot let this black dad be erased.

Kind regards,
Gregory T. Walker,
